Style is identity

Build

STL hip-hop emcee and activist, Nato Caliph, was releasing a new album, The Build. He needed graphic design, web development and photography to market his latest album release. It was time to build.

Handwritten

SOLVM started by creating a handwritten, signature-style logo. SOLVM handwrote the logo using a broad tipped paint pen in a graffitisque style to root the mark in hip-hop culture.

“The logo is dope!”

Photography

Nato picked the location for the photo shoot, and SOLVM brought the gear. All images were captured using the amazing Fuji X-T3 with Fuji’s gorgeous 56mm f1.2 and 90mm f2 lenses. The Fuji color-science is known for rendering amazing colors and skin tones. So it was the perfect fit for this shool.

Artwork

The next phase was to design the album artowrk. We stuck with the handlettering for the title. We used photos of Nato on the front and back to litterally put a face to the music.

Website

We used the new photos, logo and music to create the website. We kept the site simple to keep the focus on the music and videos. As we were working on the site Nato wanted to expand it to also become an archive for all of his music and past shows.
